Tripp

Sex: Male
Breed: Chihuahua/ Jack x
Age: 2-3 years old

We went to the shelter to pull one dog and this boy just broke our heart! Moments before Christmas he found himself on the 58 freeway with a compound break to his right front leg. Even with a bone protruding from his skin he was so sweet. We have no idea how he ended up on the freeway but we knew we could pull off one more miracle for the year.

Tripp’s break was so bad he needed an amputation. Tehachapi vet had room so we got him in. Tripp is now setting into foster care and recovering. He’s a very shy but sweet boy and isn’t afraid to tell other dogs to get out of his personal space. His road to recovery will be long and we’ll take that time to get to know him better so we can choose his perfect family. We can’t wait to watch this little guy heal and grow now that he’s in a safe place.

Mr. Puffles (Adoption Pending)

Sex: Male
Breed: Pomeranian
Age: 12-14 years old

With the funky year Covid has given us we decided we needed an extra special foster to end on a positive note. Meet Mr. Puffles! He’s basically the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of the Pomeranian world. An adorable, ancient stuffy of a dog, how could we say no? We welcomed this little guy in to our foster crew and he settled right in. Mr. Puffles is TINY! Only 4lbs but is definitely a bit underweight so we’re working to fatten him up. He’s had a dental and is totally toothless but eats like a champ. He’s good with other dogs and loves people. We do have the perfect forever home lined up for him once he’s healthy enough for adoption .

Georgia

Sex: Female
Breed: Pitbull
Age: 1 year old

Georgia found herself at the City Shelter after she’d been picked up as a stray with a significantly broken leg. We suspect she’d been hit by a car. Her break was so bad it required repair by an orthopedic specialist.

Georgia is now sporting some internal metal hardware to keep the broken portions of her bone in place. We’re keeping her comfortable with medications and crate rest and are optimistic she’ll be fully healed in 6-8 weeks.

Once healed Georgia will be looking for a wonderful forever home. She is an absolute LOVE even with her current injury. She’s very people motivated and wants to be an overgrown lapdog so bad. We’ve done some minimal dog introductions and so far she’s been great! Once she’s more healed and physically able to interact more we’ll get a better ideal of how she does with canine friends of all sizes. Stay tuned for updates as Georgia recovers.

Bolt

Sex: Male
Breed: Pitbull x
Age: 2 years old

Poor Bolt found himself at the City Shelter after he’d been picked up as a stray with a broken leg. Shelter staff loved him and his exuberant nature and did their best to give him the time to find rescue placement. We are so glad we could help.

Despite the splint being changed, Bolts leg didn’t heal due to the severe nature of the fracture. The vet recommended an amputation and the staff at Marley’s agreed that Bolt’s quality of life would improve with that treatment.  No longer in pain, Bolt has recovered from the amputation and adjusted to the absence of that leg.

Bolt is  looking for a wonderful forever home. His ideal home will be an active family looking for a fun and active pup to join their ranks. He’s compatible with other canine friends. We feel he’d likely case kitties.

Once healed Bolt will be looking for a wonderful forever home. His ideal home will be an active family looking for a fun and active pup to join their ranks. Once he’s more healed we will dog test him to ensure he’s compatible with other canine friends. We feel he’d likely case kitties. Stay tuned for updates as Bolt recovers.

Callie

Sex: Female
Breed: Maltese/Poodle x
Age: 3 years old

Callie’s looks are what many of our adopters want. Because of her appearance she’s had a huge response but Callie is going to be a harder to place dog. She’s complicated. She is VERY shy and VERY shut down! She’s been with Marleys Mutts for almost 40 days. This is not due to lack of interest but rather because of our desire to allow her time to decompress and make sure we know as much about her as possible so we can place her in an appropriate home.

Callie will never be what most people want or expect in a dog (which is happy go lucky). She may always be shy, fearful and possibly even standoffish long term. She has not bonded with any of the humans in her foster home but has come out of her shell a tiny bit when outside and with other confident/friendly dogs. Most adopters are not equipped to manage this personality trait. She has never shown any aggression with people just fear. Love and affection will not “fix” Callies issues and if she’s pushed too hard with well intentioned affection she will likely regress into her shell even further.

What Callie needs is a home that allows her to decompress and adjust at her speed and doesn’t push social interaction before she’s ready. This process could take weeks, months or  in some cases years. Even once she’s fully decompressed she may never be a “people friendly “ or super social dog. Only time will tell us what kind of personality she’ll have once her fear has decreased. We’d really love for Callie to have a quiet home, a patient family and another confident friendly dog as she’s more dog oriented and dogs will help pull her out of her shell a bit quicker. Children make her nervous so a child free home would suit her the best.

We are taking our time with her placement as placing her isn’t the #1 priority unless the placement is the right match. She’s much too sensitive to be bounced around from home to home if a placement doesn’t work out.

I know how eager families are to adopt but with some dogs the process just takes longer. We really want Callie to have that perfect fit. If you feel you can be the patient home Callie needs no matter how long it takes her to open up apply today

Lily

Sex: Female
Breed: Chihuahua x
Age: 8-9 months old
There are souls so sweet they touch your heart instantly and you can’t say no.
Such was the case with Lily. Her eyes show the sorrow that’s been her short life. She was picked up as a stray by Kern County Animal services and has struggled with both puppy strangles and Mega Esophagus. The puppy strangles made her miserable and the Mega E was slowly starving her. Lucky for her we know how to help and have the mutt militia backing us. So we’re getting this baby the medical care she needs. We know we can give her that 2nd Chance. Lily has a long recovery ahead of her and we will not accept applications for her until closer to the time she is adoptable. Stay tuned for updates as she heals.

Sunny

Sex: Male
Breed: Terrier/chihuahua x
Age:  1 week old
These little nuggets of adorableness found themselves at the shelter with their momma, Beatrice, when they were just days old. The shelter is definitely no place for a newborn family so they joined the Marleys Mutts crew.

They are now about a week old and thriving in foster care. Momma is a wonderful and sweet mommy and the puppies are growing and getting strong. Our best guess at this point is that they are chihuahua/terrier crosses. They’ll be small dogs when full grown as mom is only about 10lbs. These puppies won’t be ready for adoption for several months and we will not accept applications for them or their momma until closer to the time they are adoption ready. For now we can all enjoy watching Sunny and his litter mates grow.
