Life Skills Through Dog Handling: 7 Weeks
All of our dog-handling instruction focuses heavily on the reciprocal benefits of the human-canine connection. When people provide the guidance and leadership on which dogs thrive, a positive feedback loop empowers both people and dogs to do and be their best. The life skills course covers topics such as “Taking Walks -- with Dogs -- to a Whole New Level”, “Freedom & Responsibility”, “How Dogs Make Leaders of Us”, “How Energy & Intention Affect Behavior”, and “Building Intrinsic Motivation”.
Best suited for: Vulnerable adult populations, such as those affected by substance abuse or domestic violence.
* We request a donation to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue (specifically to the MIRACLE MUTTS program) in the amount of $350 for this 7-week class.
Moving Forward with Dogs: 12 Steps At A Time
13 Weeks: This innovative and therapeutic course integrates dog handling and dog training with 12 Step addiction recovery work. Volunteers bring Miracle Mutts therapy dogs in to work with members of drug and alcohol recovery groups. We discuss themes that connect a specific Step # with dogs and the human-canine bond, showing participants how much healing power can be gleaned from working with, and walking with, dogs. As a means by which to bring a tangible, physical aspect to the otherwise abstract emotional process of Step work, participants take pack walks, and learn basic positive reinforcement dog training techniques. The class is uplifting and engaging, as relationships form between dogs and individuals in recovery; all parties are transformed in significant and beautiful ways.
Best suited for: Addiction recovery groups, in live-in residences or outpatient recovery centers, 12-Step meetings or conferences (can be condensed into a 1.5 hour seminar upon request).
* We request a donation to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue (specifically to the MIRACLE MUTTS program) in the amount of $450 for this 13-week class.
Empowering the Dog Guardian Within: Harness the Potential of the Human-Canine Bond to Bring Out the Best in Your Dog, Yourself and Others : 1.5 hour seminar
Dogs and humans have coevolved for many thousands of years, cultivating a mutually beneficial partnership rooted in emotional honesty. Examining our dogs' behavior as an extension of our own leads to a deepened state of self-awareness; it calls on us to be accountable, humble, and responsible if our aim is to provide effective leadership to our dogs -- as well as to our children, students, staff, clients and employees.
In this seminar, we will explore the human-canine dynamic that sets both people and dogs up for success. Working hands-on with therapy dogs from Marley's Mutts’ “Miracle Mutts” program, participants will gain insight into how a few fundamental dog training principles can enhance performance in many areas of life and work.
Best suited for: Leadership training, Life skills, Life Coaching, or other types of corporate/professional, academic, human services, animal behavior, or community-oriented workshops or conferences
* We request a donation to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue (specifically to the MIRACLE MUTTS program) in the amount of $250 for this seminar.
