Poor Lilly with her jet black coat was getting overlooked at our county shelter. Black animals are sadly frequently overlooked in the shelter environment putting them at risk of euthanasia.
Lilly is outgoing and full of personality! She is an active girl, but knows how to settle down. She is an excellent hiking companion and a great off-leash dog. She is very smart and will need regular exercise. She would be a great agility or flyball dog. She has all the right makings for a champion!
Lilly is about 7 months old, 50 pounds and loves dogs and is great with every dog she meets. She needs another young dog to play with -- has lived with dogs of all sizes (11 to 80 pounds) in her foster home and has done really well. She also has been living with cats both indoor/outdoors. She is never aggressive and loves to hang out with them as evidenced by the pictures. She has also been around the donkeys in her foster home and never bothers them.
Lilly has been learning all the basic commands – sit, stay, leave it, come, wait, heel, etc. She is extremely smart and learns quick. She already knows how to hit a doorbell button to let you know she needs to go outside.
Lilly LOVES all people and especially children. With age and training, she has the makings to be an awesome therapy dog. At this puppy stage, she does tend to be mouthy with small children, so it would be best to have her around older kids (10+ years) or just adults while she is learning and maturing. She also would be a bit overwhelming to live or visit with senior citizens regularly at this stage as well.
Lilly has no food aggression and eats nicely with the other dogs near her. She rides very well in a car and is a great car traveler. She is not afraid of loud noises as evidenced by the huge number of fireworks she experienced on the 4th of July which she slept right through. She also has no issues with dirt bikes or the offroad community. Lilly loves to chew bones and play with toys – though she is not really obsessed with either. She has not been destructive – no chewing on blankets or destroying her stuffed animals, but she is a puppy so monitoring is recommended until she fully matures. She is kennel and crate trained and stays in both quietly. Lilly does not have separation anxiety and is fine left alone but would be best with another dog. She is not an escape artist and is fine behind a chain-link fence.
To sum up Lilly’s ideal family, they would have time for training, be active and take their dogs places, have a solid amount of dog experience with smart, energetic dogs, and have another active, socialized dog that she can play with. She is an extremely lovable, personality-filled pup who makes her family laugh regularly. She is definitely the life of the party!
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
