Breed: Pomeranian x
Age: 10 years old
Opal had so many strikes against her in the shelter system. She’s a senior, she’s black, she has visual impairments and she has a mammary tumor. Those combinations of things basically ensured she wasn’t going to leave the shelter via adoption and made her the perfect rescue candidate. Rescue is all about 2nd chances and we are confident we’ll give Opal hers.
Opal is a sweet slightly demanding girl. You can tell she lived inside a home prior to her shelter time as she's completely house trained and demands to be up on the couch lol. If you don’t hear or see her request she will find you and make sure you didn’t forget about her. Although she is very visually impaired she navigates her fosters home easily and only occasionally bumps into something. We think she can see some shadows but will know more once she sees the vet. Currently she requires eye drops for her eyes but isn’t a fan. She HATES them! She is very difficult with their application so we are hopeful the vet will give us other options.
She is good with other dogs and peacefully coexists with all the dogs in her fosters home. She does prefer they not touch her food so is fed separately and there are no issues. Opal does well with older respectful children and is happiest when she is getting attention and sitting by her humans especially when they’re on the couch. This girl really just wants to be your lap baby. Opal will be ready for her forever home once she’s seen the vet for her eyes and mammary tumor. She will also be spayed. If you love the older pups Opal just might be the girl for you.
Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
