Tova is super stoic beauty! She is an approximately 80 pounds, 4-5 year old mastiff mix. This beautiful girl was named after the feminine version of Thor, the god of thunder. Her name is everything that is beautiful and good. Tova was adopted in 2020 but sadly returned recently due to issues with the families cat. Prior to her adoption Tova had been picked up as stray by Kern County Animal Services with horrific burns (we believe they were chemical burns) to her body. We have no idea how Tova was burned but she recovered after several months – though she will always have the scars as reminders. While Tova recovered from her burns and extreme infections, she could not get spayed and was actually pregnant. This girl had been through so much but raised amazing puppies on top of it all.
We are always sad when adopted dogs come back into our care. Our goal is for each dog to find a forever family and never be abandoned again. Although she’s been returned Tova is a great dog and we are confident we’ll find her that perfect home. Tova is intelligent and has learned the rules in several environments super quick! She is packed with personality and loves all people she meets – small children, adults, men, women, strangers, you name it. She is definitely a people dog! She loves to cuddle with people. Tova settles down nicely in the house, she is housebroken, crate and kennel trained -she does not make a peep when confined. This dog would do well in an apartment or condo. She has no separation anxiety and is a very solid dog when left alone. She is great for baths and is good with being handled. Tova is an EXCELLENT car traveler and would do very well on long trips! She is healthy, eats well, not picky and no finicky stomach issues. She is moderately active and enjoys hanging out with you. She is not an escape artist – she will stay nicely behind a 5-foot chain-link fence and waits patiently for you to return. She has no food aggression with humans and is comfortable with you taking bones and food away. She has not chewed up blankets in her crate or tried chewing on anything inappropriate around the house.
Tova is social with dogs who are social and respectful with her. She is open and easy going. She would not do well with overly dominant or insecure type personalities - it is the happy go lucky types she adores. She does love to play with dogs, but she could also live happily as an only dog. Tova pretty much knows the commands sit, down, come, kennel, and wait – though true to the nature of the mastiff – it is more on her time whether she is responsive. She is learning a very solid heel and “no.” She has a great recall in the yard – even when she is on the hunt for varmints. Tova will need regular exercise, but she is on the lazier side. She is highly food motivated – that is her training secret. Tova would be fine with first time dog owners as she is pretty content with whatever you do with her and is not high maintenance.
If you are interested in learning more about Tova, please fill out the adoption application. We’d love to get her back in a home.
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
