Courage

Sex: Male Breed: Cane Corso/Mastiff x Estimated Date of Birth: 06/18/2013 2 years ago when Paws for Miles rescue in Cincinnati reached out asking for help for a dog with a missing tongue we never thought adoption would be an option. He was so emotionally damaged…. It was devastating! Courage had literally seen more horrors in his short life than many of us will see in a lifetime! He was the face of a fighting ring dog and bore the scars of his abuse. How do you fix that kind of damage? We didn’t think we could and resigned ourselves to the fact that Courage would live an amazing life as a forever Marleys Mutt. Little did we know Courage, with all the strength of a true survivor, had other plans. Covered in scars consistent with those seen in many bait dogs. Courages tongue had been removed at the base and we suspect it was likely ripped out by another dog. He learned to eat, he learned to drink and remarkably he learned to trust. The unpredictable dog who originally came into our care is now a dog who loves with his whole heart and soul and truly cherishes the humans he meets. The differences in his personality and temperament are remarkable and a true testament to the resilience of rescue dogs. Courage is finally ready to find a real home. The kind of home he should have had from the beginning. And like the amazing dog he is this home must be perfect. We feel his perfect family will have solid large dog experience. Because of his past Courage would do best in an only pet and child free home. Courage deserves people who will be just as committed to him as we have been. If you love a good comeback story and the resilience of dogs like Courage please apply. We are so excited to see this big boy take those steps into the next chapter of his life

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook

  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website

  • All pets will be spayed or neutered

  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date

  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
