Dottie

Sex: Female

Breed: Border Collie/ McNab x

Estimated Date of Birth : 11/07/2024

It’s hard not to be shy when humans have let you down but Dottie is here to prove that even shy dogs can learn to trust. She’s in just the right place to learn how amazing people can be and already we are seeing a huge difference. The shy scared pup we 1st met is building on her confidence and is such an incredibly sweet girl. She wants to trust and wants those positive interactions with both people and other dogs. She’s still runs away a bit when you go to say hi but quickly comes back because she craves the attention she knows people can provide.

Dottie’s past is unknown but she was found by one of our foster families injured in downtown Bakersfield. It appeared that another animal had beaten her up pretty badly. She had puncture wounds and swelling across her face, neck and head. One of the punctures on her face went all the way through into her mouth. She was in rough shape but we were still hopeful she had a family looking for her. Dottie spent the next month completing her stray hold at the city shelter. Her family never came and when her time was up another of our most experienced fosters said yes to getting this girl out and into an available foster spot in their home.

Dottie is fostered with a trainer who is helping her leave her past behind and build the skills she needed to improve her confidence and thrive. It’s working! Dottie is crate trained and growing more social and confident every day. Underneath that initial scared exterior is a happy and playful girl who loves her canjne buddies and has been incredibly sweet, even if a bit shy, with every human she’s met. Dottie just needed her chance to shine and she’s finally getting it. She’s ready to move on to the next chapter of her life and would love nothing more than an incredible family to continue her training and a home to call her own.

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook

  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website

  • All pets will be spayed or neutered

  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date

  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
