Breed: Labrador Retriever x
Age: 1-2 years old
Thumper is a 1-2 year old, 55 pound, active male Lab mix. He has no obvious allergies. No sensitive stomach issues and is very healthy. He has been great with all the dogs in his foster home, including an 11 pound dog. He has also visited dogs at an agility training class and on walks and has been very friendly. He is good with his fosters cats with observation and guidance as he can be very puppy. He loves to play, so we would like to see his new home have at least one other playful dog. He loves the game of chase, but also wrestling too!!
Thumper has a lot of training, but he is going to need an experienced dog owner who has the time and knowledge to keep him headed in the right direction. He needs a very solid pack leader who does not let dogs do anything they want – no softies for this guy. He is ALL puppy with lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. Given his age and willfulness, we want Thumper in an adult-only household.
The good stuff about Thumper: he is a beautifully kennel and crate trained dog. He’s great with all confinement and has no separation anxiety of any kind. He is not an escape artist and not a fence jumper either. He is a great eater, no food or bone aggression. He eats loose with other dogs and waits patiently for his food bowl. You can touch him anywhere and he is great with baths. He listens well and is overall pretty obedient. He is good on leash and corrects easily but if you are a soft/lazy dog trainer he will take full advantage of that and become way too excited when he sees other dogs. He LOVES all people. He loves men, women and children. No fear of anyone ever and he’s had lots of exposure. He’s a great car traveler no car sickness, no drooling, and completely quiet on trips. He appears to be fully housebroken.
The more challenging side of Thumper: he is a chewer (typical puppy) – so we would not leave him alone in the home unattended and he is not trustworthy off leash at this time. He loves people and will sometimes jump on people in his excitement. He LOVES to chase birds, squirrels and rabbits. He would be best with some space to run and will need solid exercise time daily – he loves to run 1000% all out. He does react to dogs that bark at him. He will need work on leash skills in the presence of dogs.
If Thumper sounds like your perfect match apply to make him part of your family.
Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
